Think gooey, fudgy, delicious dark chocolate cookies! Even better, add adorable pink and red heart sprinkles and you’re all set for Valentine’s Day! I actually had leftover ingredients from a Christmas cookie baking day at which I was going to make peppermint fudge cookies, but ran out of time. I wanted to make good use of most of the ingredients, so I ditched the peppermint and adapted the recipe a bit to fit the next holiday – Valentine’s Day.

Chocolate Cookie Recipe Ingredients

This is a super easy recipe because you use a cake mix to make the cookies, chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream to make the frosting and any sprinkles you want to decorate. I picked up a carousel of Valentine’s sprinkles from Target, but you can really use whatever sprinkles fit the occasion you’re celebrating.

Dark Chocolate Cookies

The frosting is what makes these cookies unreal! They are soooo rich and gooey. All you have to do is melt dark chocolate chips. I take the easy way out and melt them using the microwave in 1 minute increments on 50% power until they are melted. Then I just stir in a little heavy whipping cream and keep adding it until it is the consistency I want.

Ingredients
  1. 1 box devil's food cake mix
  2. 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 bag dark chocolate chips
  5. 1/4 pint heavy whipping cream
  6. Valentine's sprinkles
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 325°F for a dark or nonstick pan.
  2. In large bowl, mix cake mix, oil and eggs until dough forms.
  3. Scoop dough into 1 inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  4. Bake 10 minutes or until set. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack. Cool completely.
  5. Heat half the bag of dark chocolate chips in a microwaveable bowl in 1 minute increments at 50% power until melted.
  6. Stir in heavy whipping cream (about 1/4 pint) or until it's the consistency you'd like it to be.
  7. Frost cooled cookies immediately after stirring in the whipping cream.
  8. Sprinkle and eat!
Notes
  1. Make sure the microwaveable bowl and spatula you use to mix the frosting is completely dry during the melting process. Even just a drop of water in your chocolate will cause it turn hard!
