When you have a baby you end up childproofing your entire household. From moving breakable items, to putting caps on outlets and setting up baby gates, your home pretty much transforms to keep your little ones safe. Jeremy and I also put locks on our low cabinet drawers to keep Evie from getting into things she shouldn’t. One of the most important things to childproof is your medicine cabinet.

Now that Evie is a toddler, she’s figuring out how some of those cabinet locks work and getting even more curious about what’s inside. This weekend, I decided it was time to stock up on medicine for the winter and also move our storage from our vanity drawer and up into our cabinet out of sight and out of reach of our curious little toddler. As I was working on it, I came up with a few tips for childproofing your medicine cabinet and wanted to share those tips with you!

5 Tips For Childproofing Your Medicine Cabinet |

  1. Move your medicine out of reach of little hands. The higher the better, and if you have a lock use it.
  2. Never leave your medicine out where your kiddo can reach it. Putting it away after use is best.
  3. Securely close your medicine bottles. Brands like Robitussin® and Advil® have child-resistant packing, so make sure you are closing lids appropriately.
  4. Teach your little one medicine is not candy. They might think it tastes pretty good, so letting them know that it’s not a treat is important.
  5. Check expiration dates. Now is a good time to clear out any expired medicines and stock up on new medicine for the winter. Make sure to get rid of your medicines in a way that your kiddo can not reach them.
