Thank you Gymboree for sponsoring this holiday traditions post!

This time of year is truly The Best Time To Be A Kid! It’s filled with magical moments and anticipated traditions. Now that we have little ones of our own, my husband and I continue to celebrate holiday traditions from each of our childhoods and have also come up with a few new ones to add to the fun. This year feels even more magical as it’s Levi’s first Christmas and Evelyn’s third Christmas. At three, Evie has reached a new understanding of what’s to come. I love hearing her giggle about Santa and gush over all her wish list items. There’s something so sweet about seeing that spark of excitement!

Today, I’m sharing a few of our favorite family holiday traditions!

Cut our own Christmas tree | Each year, we bundle up and head to the Christmas tree farm to search for the perfect tree. Jeremy chops it down and we bring it back to the barn where we sip on hot cider and take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Decorate with Christmas music | Turn up the tunes! (I’m not going to lie, I already turned on a Mariah Carey Christmas song just the other day when I was alone in my car!) Jeremy usually heads outside to put up the house lights, while I tackle the inside decor. I have SO many bins of decorations. This year, I’m excited to have Evelyn help as she already got such a huge kick out of helping with the Halloween decorations.

Stockings on St. Nick’s Day | An old German tradition passed down from my family is celebrating the feast of St. Nicholas’ Day. The eve of December 5th we put our stockings on the mantle. The morning of the 6th, which is his feast day, the stockings will be filled with candy and little gifts! Every year, each person gets a new ornament to add to the tree.

Family Christmas jammies | I love getting matching family Christmas jammies each year to wear on Christmas day while we open our presents. It’s so goofy and cute and makes for a great family photo.

Cookie baking day | My mom, aunt, sister, cousin, and I have always gotten together to bake cookies and hang out for the day. Now that us girls have little girls of our own, they get to share in the cookie baking tradition as well! We usually wear matching socks, or aprons, or silly hats each year!

Holiday greeting card | I love receiving holiday cards with family photos on them! That’s why each year, I make sure to take a family photo and share it with all our family and friends.

Giving back | I’ve always loved taking an ornament from the giving tree at church. It lists a child’s age and few items of need. This year, I’m going to make sure Evie is involved in picking and wrapping each gift so that she knows the beauty of giving.

Frosting holiday cutouts | Another favorite is heading to Gigi’s house to frost and decorate holiday cutout cookies. By the end of the day, our bellies are full with a hearty home-cooked meal and we are covered in frosting and sprinkles!

There are even more traditions I could list from driving around neighborhoods to see all the sparkling lights to reading our favorite Christmas books, or putting out cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve, and writing letters in advance. Our family really takes pride in making the holiday season The Best Time To Be A Kid
