I realize that despite my best efforts I cannot seem to finish a book in just one month’s time frame. At first, I felt a little bit like a failure but then recognized that I have to cut myself some slack. I’m a mom, a wife, a full time event planner, and somehow manage to pursue my love for blogging on top of everything else! I figure, I can’t be the only mom who can’t keep up with this book club. So I’m changing the rules, cutting myself some slack and turning this book club into a slower paced club giving us all time to enjoy a book, at a pace a busy mom can keep up with! Let’s change our goal to 6 books in a year. Just 6 books. That gives us two months to read each book, or finish and take a little break before diving into the next one.

That being said, I just finished See Me by Nicholas Sparks. I’m on a plane, which gave me the dedicated time to finish it up. I liked it! I can’t say I loved it, but I did enjoy the easy read with a good love story and a little suspense and mystery thrown in. Overall, I liked the story as it had unexpected twists and turns that kept me reading, especially near the end (of course).

I had a hard time falling in love with Maria and Colin’s love story. For some reason, I didn’t feel compelled to root for them or even believe in them as a couple. Something was missing for me unlike other Nicholas Sparks books that I’ve read. Maybe it was because of the focus on the suspense side of the story, but something about Maria’s character was a little underwhelming. Even still, if they do make this book into a movie, like all Nicholas Sparks books eventually are, I will watch it as I’m curious how’d they’d bring it to life! Who knows maybe I’ll like Maria better on the big screen!
