Well, actually to “Gigi’s” house we go as Evelyn lovingly refers to my my mother-in-law. My mom (aka Grandma), Evie and I all headed up north Wisconsin to visit Gigi for a girls weekend in Door County. Three generations of women gathering together to enjoy a weekend of exploring, sightseeing and eating good food. My husband was gone on a fly fishing trip for over a week, so this mama enjoyed the company and help of both grandmothers for the weekend.
The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” rings so true. Yes, I could have taken care of my daughter on my own, but what a wonderful opportunity for Evelyn to get to spend time with her grandmothers and for me to spend time with my mothers! My favorite childhood memories consist of being surrounded by family… aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, siblings, and my parents. I strive to make sure Evelyn’s childhood holds that same feeling of love and family.
Our weekend was filled with laughter, fun and activity… and BONUS the grandmas even let this tired mom sleep in each morning! It felt so good! Evie holds her Gigi and Grandma near and dear to her little heart. Seeing the beautiful relationship she is forming with each of them gives me so much joy! So thank you to you both for being the best grandmothers a little girl could have… and thank you for the extra sleep!
What are your favorite grandmother memories or traditions?
