I didn’t make any official New Year resolutions, yet I always find myself striving to improve some area of my life during the first few months of the year. Beginnings have a way of making us look at life with a sense of renewal. This year, I felt inspired to research the everyday products my family and I have been using and swap them out for safer alternatives when possible.
That being said, my goal is progress not perfection. My goal is to reduce our overall chemical load by introducing clean products into our routines. I’ve been sharing the entire process with you guys and the response has been inspiring! So many of you are in the same phase that I am, or have been thinking about making the switch.
Let’s take a step back… Just a few months ago, I really didn’t think about the fact that there could be anything bad for me in my beauty products. Why would I worry? Someone had to be regulating the ingredients. This is America after all. Or so I thought…
The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
The FDA does not have to approve a beauty product before it hits the market. The responsibility is on us to turn the bottle around and be mindful of the ingredients. Discovering the link between rising health issues (such as infertility, thyroid disorders, low sperm count, and cancers to name a few), and the chemicals and toxins that our bodies are exposed to every day via beauty products, has lead me to research how I can reduce the chemical load that both my family and I are exposed to.
That being said, I started swapping out my everyday products that I’ve used for years, for safer and clean products and brands. My latest swap has been my entire makeup collection and it feels so good to do a little something just for me. When I found out our beauty industry is essentially NOT regulated, I started looking up some of the harmful ingredients that were in my makeup and beauty products.
After researching such eye-opening information about the harmful chemicals and toxins being put into the products I’ve been using, I literally felt like I was spreading garbage on my face when doing my makeup. Gross! So, I did my research to find both high performing and safe products and that’s when I discovered Beautycounter.
I’ve been using Beautycounter products for a couple months now and I’m loving it all! Here’s the thing… making the switch to safer products can feel overwhelming. I found myself asking, where do I start? And that’s when I just took it one step, or one product, at a time. This year, I started with my deodorant and just kept going from there. As I used products up, I didn’t replace them with the old brand. I did my research and ordered new safer products to try.
Beautycounter stands out to me because they are on a mission to get safer beauty in the hands of everyone, they advocate to reform the beauty industry, and their products are on trend and high-performing. We are on the cusp of a new era of people demanding better for themselves and I want to be part of it!
And, that’s why I decided to become a Beautycounter consultant. I was already telling everyone I know about how much I loved the products and why it was important to me to make a change.
