I have been dreaming of Levi’s modern black and white nursery in our new home! Do you guys remember when I set up his nursery in our old home (here)? Then, we moved just a few months later and started the building process and he never even got to sleep in his nursery! Now, his nursery is all set up *again* in our new home and I absolutely love it.
My goal was to create a space that is neutral with a design that he can grow with. I like to sprinkle toys, books, and stuffed animals into the decor to keep it whimsical and child-like, but keep the main components pleasing for any age.
Levi’s room is light and bright compared to the nursery in our old home. The large window lets in lots of natural light and the crisp white walls allow for his beautiful natural colored nursery furniture from Milk Street to shine.
The design is mostly black and white, but I like to warm things up with natural wood tones and pops of green in his sheets and the plant next to his crib. His modern black and white nursery turned out exactly as I envisioned it would!
FURNITURE
This gorgeous timeless nursery crib and dresser is created with love by designer Julie Kinsley who has designed luxury furniture for brands like Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn! She recently launched her very own company called Milk Street so that she could share her passion for crib safety and a vision for beautifully styled nursery furniture.
His furniture is from the Cameo collection and boasts Milk Street’s signature color Toast. I’ve never seen a color quite like it anywhere else on the market. The color is described as sandblasted and brushed natural wood tones with a depth in pigment. His furniture is really a show stopper and the highlight of the entire room.
If you’re one of my Wisconsin followers, you can view and buy furniture from the Milk Street collections at The Lullabye Shop in Appleton, WI. The kind folks who own the full-service infant through teen furniture and accessories store delivered Levi’s dresser with white glove service. They brought his one-of-a-kind dresser with care all the way into my nursery and showed me all the cool features while giving me knowledgeable tips for furniture care.
I’ll be posting another blog story soon with all the details of Levi’s new furniture along with an exclusive Q&A with Julie Kinsley herself!
LIGHTING
Ahhh, Levi’s fan! I love to call lighting the jewelry of the room. It just completes the entire design and lighting should never be forgotten. My lighting choices were very important to me in the home build process and I picked out everything myself.
For Levi’s nursery, I chose Hunter’s Cranbrook fan in gloss black. It’s perfect for his black and white nursery. It looks both vintage and modern all at the same time. It’s such a unique fan that I think it will stay on trend for years to come.
The vintage style dimmable LED light is included, so one less lightbulb to purchase! I never knew how light bulbs could add up so fast when building a new home!
BEDDING & PILLOWS
His handmade cactus sheets from Wild Littles just warm my heart. I have other sheets too, but I always seem to gravitate towards putting this set back on when they are clean.
I can’t seem to find any of his black and white pillows in stock as they were from a special Target line last year. But you can find similar ones here.
WALL HANGINGS
The House of Belonging made me his humble & kind sign that hangs above his crib. It’s the perfect sized sign for above a crib and the it fits into his modern black and white nursery perfectly.
I love the decor I found for above his dresser. The simple owl and buffalo watercolor animal prints paired with the black triangle shelf worked out great. It looks clean and simple.
His adorable growth chart was gifted to me by Wee Gallery and the Love Him Forever sign above the bookshelf was a gift from dear friends of ours.
RUGS
We choose this modern black and white rug from Lorena Canals. It’s great for a nursery because it’s machine washable!
Laying rugs is on trend right now. I love the way the sheepskin rug looks on top of the Lorena Canals rug. My mom gifted me the sheepskin rug, but you can find a similar one here.
DECOR
I see this faux snake plant ALL over Instagram! Probably because it looks pretty real and the modern black and white planter is so cute and current.
Like I said before, I love decorating with toys, books, and stuffed animals to bring a bit of fun and whimsy to a little one’s bedroom or nursery. I linked most of what you see in the photos below. If there’s something I missed just ask in the comments and I’ll try to find it!
Also, we LOVE Levi’s sound machine and you can find that here. It creates the perfect sound for sleeping and blocks out loud toddler noises (for the most part!).
