Kitchen Spice Rack Organization

I love to organize, yet my spices have always been a wreck of disorganization. I’m so glad I finally got around to my kitchen spice rack organization!

In my first attempt to wrangle my spices, I purchased a cute basket (the same kind I use to organize many drawers in my home). It kept them together in a pull-out drawer next to my stove. Yet, while this works well for many other items, the basket style just wasn’t functional for spices. I swear I pulled out each spice bottle twice before finding the one I was looking for!

I absolutely LOVE my second attempt at organizing my spices with a chicken wire rack that my husband screwed into the backside of our pantry door. It uses space that would otherwise go unused and makes each bottle visible and easy to grab!

Side story: Our pantry door is an authentic Wisconsin farmhouse door that we purchased second-hand. We painted it Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray and added hardware from House of Antique Hardware. I just love that crystal knob!

Kitchen Spice Rack Organization

Here’s what you need to copy my spice rack organization:

WASH THE NEW JARS: I washed all of the new spice jars and let them completely dry before beginning. You don’t want any water to be inside when you add your spices!

DISCARD OLD SPICES: Check all your expiration dates of your spices and discard old ones. Make note of any that you want to re-purchase so you can label a jar for it.

POUR SPICES INTO JARS + LABEL: You can use the funnel to pour the spices into the jars or just pour them in. That’s what I did! The funnel seemed to be more of a clunky process. Add the label to the top of the spice jar before you forget what it is!

MARK EXPIRATION DATES: Use your clear scotch tape and permanent maker to note the expiration date on the bottom of your glass jars. When a bottle becomes empty, remove the tape and start again.

ALPHABETIZE YOUR SPICES: I lined up my jars alphabetically and then placed them into the chicken wire spice rack. It makes it so easy to find what I need this way! I love that everything is visible and easy to grab.
