I’ve been dreaming up Olivia’s nursery design since before she was born, and my favorite way for me to organize my thoughts is to create a mood board for the space. My goal is to create an elegant yet cozy room that will grow with her. To do this, I’m mixing patterns and choosing timeless feminine details, along with a muted color palette.

Let’s dive into the details of this dreamy mood board…

Starting From The Ground Up!

I started with these gorgeous floor samples that Carpet One Floor & Home sent me in a fun design inspiration box! It was filled with beautiful goodies to get my creative thoughts flowing. I’m swooning over these flooring choices, but I need you to help me decide which one to choose.

Carpet One Floor & Home, a North American cooperative of 1,000 locally owned flooring retailers, analyzed buying patterns, conferred with interior designers, and considered lifestyle predictions to come up with its “2023 Floorcast” of this year’s hottest flooring trends. Carpet is coming back ya’ll! But, the natural look of hardwood isn’t going anywhere either – it’s just being laid in different patterns for an updated look.

Help me decide! Would you go with one of the natural hardwood or LVP options in a trending horizontal pattern? Or a soft carpet in one of these beautiful timeless patterned options? Let’s check out the choices…

  1. Carpet – Glendalough in Chalked White: Eco-friendly and a work of art!
  2. Carpet – Branden Pier in Metal: Luxuriously plush, yet tough under pressure for family’s lifestyle.
  3. Hardwood – Meadow Ridge – White Oak in Softened Ash: An irresistible sense of history and character.
  4. Luxury Vinyl – Caribbean Sun Herringbone in Concrete: A stunning wood look and easy to care for durability.

It’s definitely a win-win situation for whichever one I pick, but please help me choose by commenting on this blog post!

Vintage Details

Incorporating vintage details into the nursery will give it that timeless look. This brass duck and gold bowl represent the vintage pieces I’m planning on incorporating. I’m on the hunt for a brass floral antique mirror to hang above her dresser, as well as a collection of antique frames. The cream hooks are from Olivia’s Gigi and also have that beautifully aged look.

Incorporating Patterns

My favorite part of the room will be incorporating mixed patterns through nostalgic textiles. Olivia’s rose velvet dress represents the curtains I’d like to drape behind her crib. The hexagon patterned blanket will drape over her ivory rocking chair. A wooden and felt garland will add a bit of whimsy to the hanging shelves where I plan to showcase reading books.

Mixed vintage floral fabrics will weave throughout the room. Pillows, crib sheets, blankets, and possibly even wallpaper! I want the florals to go together for a harmonious design, but not be too matchy-matchy. And everything will be anchored by the patterned flooring from Carpet One Floor & Home.

Finishing Touches

I’m trying to convince my husband to paint the nursery walls a slightly creamy white opposed to the bright white they are now. It’s a subtle change but will make all the difference in this warm timeless nursery design!

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me choose which flooring choice would look best in Olivia’s nursery. Make sure to check out Carpet One Floor & Home “2023 Floorcast” to start your own mood board! Which spaces in your home do you dream of updating?
