Book Club! Want to join me?

One of my goals for this year is to read more books. I spend so much time reading little bits and pieces of news, social media and emails. I realize this is how society works these days. We are fast-paced and want the short version of whatever we’re working on so we can move on to the next thing! Whew, I’m tired just thinking about it. I want to sloooow down, open a real book, with real pages and enjoy a good long read. Who’s with me?!

Side note: Does anyone else open a book and breathe in the scent of the printed pages? Ahhhh, I just love it.

Anyway, I’ll choose a variety of books – inspirational, chiclets, non-fiction, romance… whatever strikes me each month as interesting (or maybe the cover looks cute). And at the end of the month, I’ll write up a review of the book and hope for you all to join the conversation in the comments, so that we can share what we thought and let others know if it’s a read worth slowing down for.

Big Magic for Book Club

I’m kicking off the SUGAR MAPLE book club in February, my birthday month! I thought it’d be appropriate to choose a book that is inspirational and empowering as I navigate a tiny bit further into my thirties. The first book will be BIG MAGIC: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert author of Eat, Pray, Love

Let me know in the comments if you are going to join me and which books are on your reading list this year.

    1. That’s awesome that you are doing one too! I love finding fellow readers. It’s amazing how many books can get added on to a list and then never read, so I’m going to change that for myself this year!

  1. Me too, Sarah! Believe it or not, I had a hard time reading books; starting and not finishing; then starting another. It never used to be that way. I do plan to change this myself. I have so many I want to read. Well, blessings to you and your book next month! I’m looking forward to reading the reviews. And just in case I forget to get back to you…..Happy Birthday to you too! 😊🎈🎉

  2. I would like to do the book club! The only books I have on my list are the Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling books. I think they came out last year but I just got back into reading finally!

I just read a great book called Life Loves You.

  3. February is my birthday month too! This is a great idea! I am still trying to finish Harper Lee’s book, so I unfortunately can’t join your book club this month. But I look forward to the next one!

  4. I have finished this book up on vacation last week and loved it! I found so many great things to reflect back on and feel like I am walking around just waiting for my ‘magic’ to find me!
Readi Elizabeth Gilbert again made me go back to her book Committed that I had put down a couple years ago. I may have to re read Eat Pray Love again just because I love it so much! Can’t wait to see your next recommendation, thank you!

    1. I can’t wait to get to that point in the book! I better keep going. I’ve never read Committed. I’ll have to add it to my list. I’m traveling for a work trip soon and hope to get Big Magic read on the plane. Thanks for sharing your excitement Liz! 🌿
