Mornings can really set the tone for how the rest of the day will go. My husband and I love routine. We are planners and doers by nature, so naturally we have a typical morning routine that we find helps us start our days off right. Our kids also appreciate and strive on routine. I’m not talking about anything crazy or too difficult. It’s just a healthy morning routine that anyone can do in only three simple steps.

Have Breakfast as a Family | We LOVE breakfast. Filling our bellies right from the start gives us more energy to conquer the day. During the work week, we typically have a quick breakfast of cereal, toast, or eggs, but on the weekends we love to cook breakfast together as a family and make it a little more special.  Most Saturday mornings, you’ll find us enjoying my husband’s family pancake recipe. Evelyn loves getting in the action and helping pour and mix the ingredients together.

We each have our preferences when it comes to our pancakes. My husband loves his with blueberries mixed into the batter turning them warm and gooey. I like mine cold, fresh, and piled on top. Evelyn requests no blueberries, so I try to sneak them on her plate, but my tricks never work! That’s where the next step comes to play…

Fill Water Bottles | Another thing I try to do every morning is fill each of our water bottles. I find that if I do it right away, we’re all more likely to drink more water, which is extra important now that the weather is getting hotter.

It’s also helpful when I’m juggling taking care of Levi or nursing him and Evie is suddenly thirsty. Can any other nursing moms relate? Why do toddlers save up all their wants and needs for right when you sit down to breastfeed? It never fails. At least by having her water bottle already prepared, I can point her to it without having to get up. Let’s just hope that’s all she needs until I’m done 😉

  1. I do the same thing with our water bottles but the night before. The kids know that if they’re thirsty they don’t even have to ask but go to the fridge. It’s so nice that AJ can open the door by himself now. Gotta love blueberries too!!!
