There are obvious everyday healthy habits that have been ingrained in us. And, then there are those not so obvious healthy habits that I am striving to implement into my everyday routine. I’m not perfect; so, we’ll see how this goes, but I’m hoping you all want to do them with me so we are in this together! Here we go…

Obvious | Exercise.  We all know exercise is a key component to healthy living. I try to do a class at the YMCA once a week, workout at home using an app, or go on walks and hikes with the kids. I definitely need improvement in consistency in this area!

Not Obvious | Stretch.  As I get older, I’m realizing the benefits that stretching has on my body. I usually skip stretching or rush through it. I am that person, running out of body pump when the final stretch circuit starts, thinking I have better things to do. But stretching keeps muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. It’s needed to keep that range of motion in our joints so that we can do everyday things, like chase our little ones around or just get on the ground and play. My husband finds time to stretch every day, so I’m going to make the effort to join him so I can keep up with my babies.

Obvious | Eat healthy foods.  Yep! Super obvious. We are what we eat and our healthy diets fuel our bodies and give us energy. Not Obvious |  Read a real book before bed.  Reading is said to be a stress reducer. Instead of scrolling through my Instagram mindlessly before bed and staring at that blue-light emitted by my phone, I’m going to start up my reading habit again. My kids and I just visited the library and I picked up two new books to read so that I can read a REAL book before bed, and wind down before getting a good night’s rest.

Obvious | Get enough of sleep.  Sleep is an important part of staying healthy. So many health issues are connected to not getting enough sleep. While this is a hard one to maintain for us parents with young kids and babies, it’s something that we all should strive for. (Easier said than done! Ha!) 

Not Obvious | Take time to meditate, pray, or just be silent.  Let all your worries slip away and be mindful. I am the type of person who is always on the move. I like checking things off my list, keeping things nice and tidy, and always prepping and planning for the next thing. But relaxing and really hearing, seeing, and feeling the things around us is healthy for the mind and soul. So whether you like to meditate, pray, or just be silent, take out time everyday to just sit and be still. (And NOT with your phone!)

FIVE | 5

Obvious | Make your bed in the morning.  We’ve all heard that making your bed in the morning can lead to a more productive day and give you a feeling of accomplishment right off the bat. I do love to make my bed everyday. There’s just something about a clean room all day long and then getting into a crisp bed at night that I love. 

Not Obvious | Make sure your kitchen is clean before bedtime.  This is something I always try to have done before I go to bed. I make sure the dishes are put away, the counters are clear of clutter and crumbs, and my main living space is picked up of toys. I sleep better knowing things are in order and when I wake up to a clean kitchen I feel more ready to conquer the day and less stressed. I can enjoy my cup of coffee (or two!) and sit with my kiddos before getting going.
