Play! It’s our children’s job to simply play. I know it’s every parents struggle in today’s world to get our kids off of screens and back into playing. And, since play is important for healthy brain development in children, encouraging imaginative play is more essential than ever. As parents, how exactly do we encourage imaginative play in our kids? It’s a question I’m always trying to answer myself.  

Evelyn has the most creative imagination I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’m a little biased because she’s my daughter, but I want to do everything I can to foster her creativity. She seriously amazes me with the things she comes up with. She builds and creates the most imaginative and complex worlds with her toys, and she can play for hours moving the characters around and coming up with stories that unfold as she plays with the pieces.

When it comes to choosing toys for Evelyn, I’m drawn to toys that are filled with creativity, fun, detail, endless possibilities, and of course encourage imaginative play.

We were at grandma’s house when my mom pulled out a toy from my own childhood.  It was the PLAYMOBIL animal care station. When I was a kid, we had multiple PLAYMOBIL sets and I remember playing with them for hours as my siblings and I let our imaginations take over. PLAYMOBIL toys are exactly the kind of toy that encourages imaginative play in kids. 

We now own several PLAYMOBIL sets for Evie,  but our most recent and complex world is the PLAYMOBIL Hidden Temple with T-Rex! Evie has been obsessed with dinosaurs since I can remember, so I knew she was going to have so much fun coming up with her very own dinosaur expedition adventure.

I opened the box and spread out the pieces so that we could begin to build the hidden temple together. Evelyn immediately grabbed the characters and T-Rex and became immersed in her own adventure. I could see the scene coming to life through movements of the characters and the banter back and forth between the explorers.

The three adventurers were bravely traipsing through the jungle searching for treasure in the hidden temple that was depicted on their secret map. Unknown dangers were lurking including poisonous flowering plants, sneaky snakes, and dangerous dinosaurs!! Oh my!! I could just see the wheels turning in Evelyn’s mind, as she went to work, playing away.

PLAYMOBIL toys help develop both cognitive and social/emotional skills by encouraging imaginative play. As a mom, I love seeing the attention to detail that these sets have and I’m happy to provide such high-quality toys for my daughter. They truly last the test of time, and I can attest to that since one of the sets we are currently playing with made it through my own childhood with six other kids!
